πΈ Species Spotlight: Spindle Tree (Euonymus europaeus)
With its vivid pink and orange fruits, the Spindle Tree brings a splash of colour to hedgerows in early autumn. While its berries are toxic to humans, they’re a vital food source for birds like robins and thrushes — who help spread its seeds and support woodland regeneration.
Our recruiters work in the heart of nature, helping protect species like this and inspiring others to do the same.
π§ Apply now: send your CV and cover letter to HR@wildlifefundraising.org

π Species Spotlight: Hazel Dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius)
As autumn deepens, the elusive Hazel Dormouse is busy preparing for hibernation. These tiny, golden-furred mammals feast on hazelnuts, berries, and insects to build up fat reserves before retreating to their winter nests beneath leaf litter.
πΏ Did you know? Dormice are a key indicator of healthy, species-rich woodlands. Their presence often signals well-managed habitats with diverse undergrowth and native trees.
π Conservation Concern: Hazel Dormice are now listed as Vulnerable in Britain, with recent studies suggesting they may qualify as Endangered. Their population has declined by 70% since 2000, and they’ve become locally extinct in 20 English counties. Habitat loss, poor woodland management, and climate change are major threats to their survival.
π Why it matters: Protecting dormouse habitats helps preserve entire woodland ecosystems. Our recruiters are out across the region sharing how membership supports vital conservation work like this.
π Join us as a Membership Recruiter and be part of the team connecting people with nature and supporting conservation across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Essex, Herts & Middlesex, Leicestershire & Rutland, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, and Warwickshire.
